took the girls to a rodeo on fri. my parents took me to rodeos when i was a young whipper-snapper. i liked the bronc & bull riding the most. all the other events are pretty dern boring. i learned a few things on fri. night. the rodeo we attended was in ferntucky & was the high school big event for the state of nevada.
i learned that females don't rope calves & tie 'em up. they actually get a lamb tethered to a stake in the ground & the female approaches on her horse, then jumps off & flips the poor little lamby on his back to tie the feet. it was funny & a bit strange to see the lamb anticipating the horse/female coming towards it. it made little baaaaaaaaah sounds that were just pitiful. like i said- it was funny & there was definitely a strange feeling. we all thought it "might" be a bit cruel to scare the lamb then throw it on its back & then tie its legs. i don't know. maybe we just don't understand.
overall, i don't like rodeos like i did when i was a kid- especially high school ones. i don't think i'll be returning in the years to come. that is, unless my girls guilt trip me enough to take them. this infatuation w/horses is a bit concerning. i'll either need to buy a few horses, or not, & listen to them beg for one until they leave the house. hmmmmmm. what to do.

just listen to the begging. it's really not all that bad
roping lambs sounds like fish in a barrel, at least "catch the pig" requires chasing it down
