fiasco squared
i'm currently pulling my hair out @ work (the little i have left). i'm heading up a project that has a 30 day deadline; that nobody has successfully pulled off in the "enterprise."
the project is to perform a software upgrade of all crypto devices & get them (outer, daddy, kids) to talk after loading other stuff. i'm sorry for having to be a bit cryptographic in explaining.
4 hours into upgrading/configuring a device (single stinkin' device) (i have 34 to do) my team runs into a snag. each device is "supposed" to take 30 mts. to complete. hah. i have a team consisting of 2 network security guys, 2 network engineers, & 10 network operation center guys. my job is to guide the team through each phase of the project & provide technical assistance & encouragement. right out of the gate, we get stuck & all eyes are on me. darn it!
as we complete the crypto device phase & move into the classified network phase- everyone apparently goes brain-dead. everyone is stumped & the clock is ticking.
additional problem: my boss in texas signed me up for this pilot program/testing w/o my knowledge, then said i could finish it in 30 days to the gov't. this causes mixed emotions for me. i'm glad (kind of) for the vote of confidence from my boss, but had he asked for my professional opinion, he would have found out that it's not all that feasible to accomplish what he wants in the timeline he's giving. this is kind of a "setup to fail" scenario.
there's no backing out & this project has now become a highly visible one. please pray that we come up w/some solutions from brainstorming (Holy Spirit guided). we're under the gun & the "enterprise" is "counting" on me to pull it off. i'm a bit concerned, especially for my team-members. piss poor planning shouldn't constitute an emergency on me/my team, but it is what it is. please be praying. thanks.

Will do.
praying.... check!
...i have no idea what you're doing...but i'm praying you do it well :)
there's a reason people underperform at work - less ridiculous expectations from bosses about what you can do for them. i have dealt with similar situations and i feel your pain. will be praying for you
Words of advice culled from my years of experience dealing with just these sort of issues.
When all eyes are upon you, don't pick your nose . . .
Seriously though, hang in there Jay!
You gotta love crypto, I've only had to deal with it a few times in the last year...but I can tell you already about how much I hate it...dealing with it everyday...and trying to up grade...its gotta be fun...good luck
thanks for the prayers. :>)
i have a meeting this morning @ 9:30, in which i will share an idea i got this morning. i hope this idea works. i will know very soon.
