memory lane via old spice alley

me & old spice go way back. both grandpas & dad wore this stuff. if i'm remembering correctly, i wore it a bit in high school, as well. part of my crew consists of some civil service/servants (gs types) that are located on the first floor of our building. in order to get into my server farm, i have to pass through their hallway. their hallway smells like old spice & computer equipment.

the old spice smell is coming from one man. barry, apparently takes 1 gallon of old spice & bathes in it before coming to work. the smell is so strong that it permeates anything permeable that he goes by. for example, carpet, false ceiling tiles, his co-worker's shirts & pants, the brick walls :-), etc.. even when barry is not @ work- it smells like barry @ work. i have affectionately named it "old spice alley" w/my team upstairs.

lately, i've been getting memories of the guys in my life that wore old spice. some memories are good & others are not so good.

i'm incredibly amazed & grateful to Jesus for working in me those things needing healing. it's neat how He uses things like this to speak & reach me. it's funny to think that God would use something like old spice to say something to me, but then again, He knows how to love on me. before i just chalk something up as "funny/insignificant/goofy/meaningless", i listen real carefully to see if my Jesus is trying to love/reach me on something needing to be addressed.

p.s. i don't like how old spice smells. no offense to those of you that do.

I think a lot of guys who are my age wore Old Spice and Hai Karate when I was in high school. Those smells take me back in time too.

...my father wore old spice regularly, tho it was inexorably mixed w/the scent of cigarette and whiskey. I bought an OldSpice stick deoderant once years ago and threw it away...it reminded me a little too much of the good ole' days...

Ditto. My dad was an Old Spice guy too.

Trivia: John Bennett Perry, the actor who played the Old Spice sailor is the father of Matthew Perry of Friends fame.

my grandpa, john bennett, was in the british navy. this is where he was issued his most important items: cigs & old spice. ;]

hai karate? that's almost scary. i've never heard of this cologne. i'm gonna go google it, right now.

My great-grandfather used Old Spice. I used to open the bottle and smell it, and sometimes even put it on, when I went to the bathroom at their house. I've always found men's scents more appealing than women...
