in the spirit of going bald & embracing this genetic blessing, i shaved my head w/my gillette razor. even more, i wanted to clear up some adult acne on my scalp- i know, that's gross. of all places to get acne, my scalp is a breeding ground for pimples. the only way, so far, that has cleared it up has been when i have taken tetracycline (i won't/refuse to go that route). so, my theory was that if i get real close to the scalp & start teating it w/topical stuff- that i could really clear it up. you know- dry it up & let it heal. well, i have only proven that acne is often more genetic than environmental. so, i not only have genes for balding, but genes for acne. topical stuff only "scratches the surface"- sorry, that was lame.
when finished shaving my head, i couldn't believe how white my scalp was. also amazed was the bennett lady clan. let's just say that their response was less than favorable for me.
here's a few comments by close ones:
friend left unnamed- "all you need is a swastika on your head".
kayla- "wow, that's weird. your head looks like snow. what are all those bumps about".
becca- "eww, there's bumps everywhere. i don't like that you shaved it".
nanna- "i don't like it at all dad. it's weird. don't do that again. do the bumps hurt"?
mindy- "you like like a skinhead. you have a hump/bump on the top of your head. you gotta have a perfect head to shave it like that".
co-worker- "high hitler"
*the skinhead comments hit a bit too close to home for my liking. sometimes the truth hurts, especially when people know your past. the last thing i want to do is look like one. i guess the shaved head, doc martens, side-burns, & piercings didn't help me escape this one*
whenever you try something new, for whatever reason, you can always expect to get some frank opinions from family & friends. now i wait for the hair to grow back, so i can get the focus off my melon.

Have you thought about using a different shampoo?
poor jaybird... but on the positive side, it's great that your family can be so (BRUTALLY) honest with you!
...hey bird...i love the look...and when I'm running with you I know NOBODY messes with me...
gc- i have tried numerous shampoos. i've had this scalp acne since i was 12. i'm so desperate i'm thinking of trying tar shampoo that they use for psoriasis- to dry it out. any other ideas?
thanks dc, but i think my pink waterbottles (the girls') & water belt may actually invite people to mess w/you. :-)
paula, maybe you could try the 3 different color thing that women are paying $100 to get done.?.
jeni- optimism is always good. thanks for sharing it. :-)
