my little nanna boat (breanna) turned 6 on sat. we had about 12 kids (kindergarden class) in the 5-6 year old range running around our house. two hours of screaming kids & attempting to get a few little boys to stop running & kicking each other- made it feel like a full 8 hour work shift. little boys are weird. sheesh!
during this time of mucho fun, i started feeling a bit nauseated. i just chalked it up to the birthday cake i had. after the marathon birthday party, me & nanna were scheduled for a "father/daughter dance" w/the girl scouts.
after getting all the crazy 5-6 year olds out of my house, i really wanted to take a nap. i tried to sleep, but my stomach wasn't feeling quite right. before i knew it, i needed to get ready for the dance. i wore a suit (even a tie) & nanna wore a beautiful rose colored dress. mindy did her hair & put some lip gloss on her. nanna was so beautiful. i had a dad warm-and-fuzzy moment & my eyes welled up w/tears of gratitude to God. i got on my knees, so i could look her directly in her big green eyes. i wanted her to know that she was beautiful & extremely loved by me.
okay, snap out of it. as i get back on my feet, it's time to get on the road, so we can eat dinner & then do some dancing. dinner & dancing were at the same place (fernley middle school). for dinner we had meatballs, little smokies, & baked potatoes. nanna asked me while we were sitting down why there was no real food to eat.
after we had some delicious meat products, i quickly remembered that i had been slightly nauseated the whole day. one problem w/this: i can't go to the restroom w/o taking nanna. there weren't any adults that i knew, let alone trusted to watch her. nanna refuses to go in the men's restroom. even if i forced her, i wouldn't make her wait through something of this magnitude. needless to say, i controlled my urges & toughed it out.
we danced, competed in a limbo contest, & listened to dads competing in the tarzan call (i didn't do this one- nanna was relieved). did i mention that we live in ferntucky? as i am usually the dad that looks a bit different than the others, i scan the room to see if i could strike up conversation w/someone. not a chance, bud. this was rancher's night apparently & i didn't get the memo. cowboy hats, boots, shirts, spandex wrangler pants (gross), & blang-blang belt buckles.
anyway, me & nanna were the 103rd "couple" to show, so that also meant that we'd be # 103 on the list for pictures. two hours into the dancing, controlling my bowels, & nanna saying she was bored out of her mind, the picture ladies said, "numbers 50-60 come get in line". what? that means i'm gonna have to wait another two hours to get our picture taken w/some corny jungle theme background? no, sireeeee. i have my limits.
before leaving, i called mindy to get her opinion/take on it. she agreed w/me & nanna on it, so we headed home. don't worry- we took pictures before the dance @ the house before we left. on the way home i asked nanna what she thought of the dance. she says, "that was pretty boring stuff". "okay, nanna, what did you 'like' about it?" she waited for a bit, then says, "dancing w/you- that's about it". ahhhhhh. how sweet.
as we enter the house from the garage, my bowels have now waged a full on war w/me. it's do it now or sh!t will happen. :-) this was the beginning of my 10 hour period of my body completely eliminating all waste, in whatever manner it saw fit, & me wishing my last food wasn't meatballs & little smokies. good times, my friends. good times.
days later & still recovering, i get the pleasure of topping it all off w/a chest cold.
i love you, nanna. you are special & beautiful. i will always be here for you. - dad.

Sorry, that was my deleted comment. I noticed that I made a grammatical mistake and had to correct it... Here's the revised comment:
Don't worry jaybird, you didn't miss the memo... It's just an unspoken rule that EVERY night is ranchers' night in Ferntucky... :)
Hope that you're feeling better!

nana and chloe were putting together a puzzle the other night and they were talking about thier ages. chloe will be 6 in may. anyways, it was pretty cute just thought i would share that i think your girls are precious and amazing and that you and mindy are doing a great job as parents, it is quite obvious they know they are loved and this coming from someone who has only breifly gotten to know them.
...my experience has been that any period of waste removal exceeding ten hours is unfortunately almost always preceeded by sausage of some kind...
i love your kids man.
i'm sorry your sick :( feel better dude!
thanks for the kind words.
if you're ever wanting to lose a few pounds & detox- try cuddling w/someone that has the stomach flu (becca), then eat some smokies. this will hook ya right up. :-)
