i'm currently planning a project here @ work that involves night work. in my line of biznaz, doing maintenance or configurations of network devices- is to be done @ a time that doesn't interrupt our "users"- in linux they're called "lusers" (i'm not kiddin').
so, i'll be configuring stuff @ night when everyone is sleeping, then going to work again during the day, then going to work again @ night & the cycle repeats. bear w/ me as i vent: start work @ 7:30 am, work until 4:30 pm, then back to work @ 9 pm, off @ 1 am the next morning, then back to work @ 7:30 am, then repeat the cycle.
yeah, this will definitely get interesting. i can't tell ya what i do per say, but it's highly technical & classified. if i told you, i'd hafta kill ya. now you might be laughing @ this point, but strangely enough- it's true! that's why i can't talk about what i do in specifics & am the most boring person to talk "work" w/ on the face of the planet. here's my job description: i do classified stuff, on classified networks, for such & such commands, & am the only one on the base to sign for stuff & transport said stuff, & deliver to high ranking people, & live in server farms, vaults, & gain access w/ my eyes, palms, & combos. believe it or not- that's all i can tell you. i am in charge of 40 different buildings containing stuff & this stuff is being shared along stuff that i protect.
well, that's all i'll ever say about my profession. if ya ever wanna talk work- i guarantee that i'll bore your socks off. please feel sorry for me as my new schedule sux. please pray that qualified people will start applying, then i can hire them & will have them do this night stuff.

The schedule sounds difficult. Do you have to do it indefinitely until someone gets hired?

I have to say that if you can't say more than that about work, you're probably more interesting than most people because some people just won't shut up about their jobs regardless of how uninterested you are. Like enginerds... eWWWWWWWW
Worst schedule I ever endured was a 10 on 4 off situation that went 4 days @ mid.-8, short change to 3 @ 4-mid, then short change to 3 @ 8 to 4. The only good thing was I had every other 4 day weekend.
Your job sounds fascinating and I can't wait to hear more about what you can't tell us.
how will you know if someone is qualified for the job if you can't tell them what they will be doing? rofl!! are they going to pay for your gas while you drive back & forth to fallon twice a day? probably not. i will be praying for you & your family.

thanks for the prayers & comments. my big boss man has ok'd for me to come to work, once a day, even if i work through the night & can't be @ work during the day. that's very cool! of course, i'll still have to be available during the day (when i'm sleeping) to receive emergency operation center calls. also, just found out that the navy has ok'd for me to do about half of my stuff during the daytime.
i have a guy that should be coming on my team soon, but me/him are getting the hr run-around (red tape). please pray, specifically, for the hr stuff to go expediently & smoothly.

Yeah, are Top Gun pilots as gay in real life as they were in that movie? Top Gun is the best disguised chick flick ever. That being said, I hate that piece of crap movie. Kenny Loggins sucks it, too.
david is treading dangerously close to the danger zone. i have never seen a movie with such a devout following by a bunch of people who would never be able to verbalize why they like it. in fact, they will probably get very defensive if you inquire what is their favorite part of the volleyball scene (mine is when tom cruise checks his watch).
it's kind of like the military guy who's always accusing his son of being a fag in "american beauty". now there's a movie i would watch again.

i'm glad that things are looking up schedule-wise. two trips to fallon can't be fun, let alone the fact you're expected to work also. ugh!

I think that I have lost that loving feeling. People like that movie because they saw it when they were kids and didn't recognize "Top Gun fan" would soon equal "Fanny Bandit."

i liked the movie top gun. i'm thinkin' that most of you had small crushes on maverick & the ice man. :>0 me, however, didn't have a crush on those guys & thought goose was cool.
oh yeah, goose. that's sad. it's all comin back. still, i didn't watch that movie as much as i watched dirty dancing. ahh sheesh why did i go and open up about that!!!
