I watched the Ironman Triathlon on Saturday (the race was in '05). If I had the resources, I'd definitely do this kind of stuff. There was this guy (John Blais) with ALS that finished it- that's incredible. It made me cry and all, because ALS is usually terminal and every time they interviewed the parents they cried. Their son is slowly dying and he wanted to fulfill a lifelong dream of finishing the Ironman.
The Ironman consists of:
- 2.4 mile swim
- 112 mile bike ride
- 26.2 mile marathon
The guy did all of the above without the full usage of his hands and severe cramping that happens on a daily basis. I can only imagine the cramping with ALS and doing all those events. Truly incredible. I also watched an 85 year old man finish the Ironman. There goes all the excuses I have.
These people are motivating. When we think that getting in shape, or achieving any goal for that matter, is inconvenient or too much of a hassle- the excuse is on us, because it is possible. Maybe we have some areas in our lives that we claim are just too hard: emotional, physical, mental, or whatever. They are simply not too hard for Jesus (The Healer). We must seek, knock, and do our best in bringing glory to God. Do you know that we can speak/believe things to happen/be established in the future?
P.S. The guy that won was an Iraqi German who was wearing a Speedo. My co-worker said he was wearing a Mankini (men's version of a bikini). Now that's funny right there!

I had to read all the way to the last paragraph to find out what a mankini was! :) Does that mean that a bikini is what a bisexual wears?
Hmmm.. and since he was in the Ironman, I'm sure that he didn't have moobs. What resources are you lacking to try to do this? A bike? Just curious.
I could totally see you working toward something like this. I could also see you as an old man doing one of those extreme 100 mile marathons.
You guys make me laugh. I like the resource of time. To properly train for this sort of thing, I would be home less or working in the middle of the night. I'll wait until my ladies are older, then think about it again.
I choose not to exercise . . . just my way of sticking it to the man . . .
makes my little 2.5 mile walk look really sad!
Hey Debi, look at it this way. Your 2.5 mile walk makes plucky's nothing look really sad! :)
You ladies are doing great. It won't be long before Tim is wearing a Mankini and training in Tahoe. Right, pluck?
thanks jeni for a litle perspective.
I'll be wearing a Mankini in Tahoe, all right, but I won't be training . . .
EEEEWWWW!
