deep thoughts w/ the nanna boat

i was sitting on the couch vegetating a bit & "miss dynamite" came running over to me. she jumped up on the couch & plopped herself down next to me. as we normally do, she takes my hand/arm & puts it in her lap. as she holds my hand, she talks in quantity & speed like none ever witnessed before.

she talks about dolls, clothing, & things i told her that i would do, but haven't done or followed-up on yet. she is, to say the least, a stick of dynamite! in comparison w/ her sisters, she is what one might categorize as "strong willed". she has no concept of being wrong & her viewpoint of the world is that they just don't get it. she's the kid that will confront anyone & give them a piece of her mind. she is the person that most people will have do things that are hard for them. & @ the same time is very sweet & caring.

nanna boat (breanna- which means strong- i didn't know she'd be this strong) is an affectionate little girl/person. when she wants/needs dad time, she is making contact. she usually makes contact by hugging, holding my hand, putting her head in my lap, arm, or chest, rubbing my arm or face, or laying on top of me when i'm laying down. she loves that daddy affection stuff.

well, it was a few mos. ago & nanna was being affectionate w/ me on the couch. she looks up @ me & tells me that i'm short. she says that she's noticed how short i am compared to most men. she goes on to console me w/ some kind words, "Dad, you're pretty short, but i don't care. it's not important how tall you are. i wouldn't want a taller dad, because you're just right. you're short, but i still love you! i love you even though your short". then she kissed my cheek & went skipping through the house singing some barlow girl song.

We can learn a lot by the authenticity of children. All they know is how to be real. At what age does it turn to telling people what they want to hear?

Jay - That is precious. I love those kind of stories.

Senor H - The age when they start getting slapped around for speaking the truth and rewarded for sycophancy.

you often find that people don't respond well to honesty. much like tom cruise, they can't handle the truth. that's probably the biggest hindrance to openness more in general in the adult population.

jay, great story. i love how the word "short" is used 3 or 4 times in her consolation. great stuff.

when i was jogging, yesterday, my thoughts kept drifting towards how nanna approached me, loved on me, & told me my "short"-coming. God wants us to be like children in faith & relationship: simple, honest, & loving. her whole motive was to make sure that i was okay. she was caring for me in a simple way. that's good stuff.

Lord- help me be simple in loving on people.
