so, me & the bird are off to some cheerleading event, just the two of us, & the bird shared some very deep thoughts w/ me, her dad.
the bird asks me to turn down the music, because she has something to tell me. she grabs my right forearm & says, "You know what dad?", "What's up, kiddo?" okay enough of the quotation marks. she tells me that she holds her "toots" all day long at school, because it would be embarrassing to "toot" in front of her class. she said that usually she can hold it until she gets home, but that sometimes she slips & kids hear it.
i just listened w/ a smile on my face. i think we've all held our "toots" before. the bird finally tells me as she's rubbing my arm that she feels comfortable around me & has been "tooting" in the car since we left the house. even as this whole gaseous thing is somewhat funny for our culture, i got something deeper out of this moment.
the bird trusted me w/ even one the most embarrassing things for her & she wanted to share a precious moment of "stink" w/ me. thanks, bird. keep tootin'!!! toot, toot! i'm hear for ya whenever ya wanna got for a ride & share deep thoughts w/ me. :>)
toot = fart

In all seriousness, I can't imagine a more meaningful moment for father and daughter to share.
One time my niece, Molly, took me into my parents backyard because she had to tell me a secret. "I can't read," she said. She was 4.
It is really sweet, but I did have to laugh. :)
Great story Jay. You too, David.
When my oldest was a little girl, her mom was teasing her about having a boyfriend. She said, "I don't need a boyfriend, I have my Dad!"
the secretive "tooter" just got appointed to the school advisory board. kayla had to meet strict academic & social requirements to even be recommended by teachers, parents, then a written interview. she foun out, yesterday. it's so very cool when your child does very well at something- for kayla, it's being a stellar example to her fellow students.
signed,
joyous dad
