Marathon Update: Tahoe out & Susanville in

After further consideration, DC and I have decided that the Lake Tahoe Marathon would be best ran with another year of training. Translated: We don't want to get our butts kicked and possibly get hurt. The Tahoe Marathon is no joke and I feel relieved/released from an undercurrent of stress, because I knew deep down that I might not be ready.

So far there's a few of us that will be running the Susanville Marathon. This marathon has some high altitude, but for the most part slightly goes down hill at a 2% grade. That's not a bad deal in considering that the Tahoe Marathon has a part where you run for about 5 miles uphill! Anyone tried running up extreme hills for 5 miles at very high altitude?

Training has been going well. Like I've said before, I get up at about 4:30 and run. Waking up this early is worth it to me, because although I don't like how early it is, I like the benefits of doing it. The cooler weather allows for me to get a better workout in- in contrast to a hot workout that sometimes is a challenge to run 3 miles without wanting to die. Not to mention, the Susanville Marathon will be in October and the weather will be nice/fairly cool. I don't need extreme, hot weather training in order to run it. I need weather that is the closest to what it'll be on Marathon Day. Now if I could just train at the Susanville altitude, it would be even more optimal. I take naps at lunch-time on running days. This counteracts the intense desire to pass out at 2p.m. at my desk if I don't. It works pretty good. If I haven't persuaded you to do the early morning run, then go ahead and enjoy your sweaty, hot run of lethargy. Just jokin'... :>0

Click here for info. on the Susanville Marathon. For me, I'll start running with DC and company at about the 16 mile mark for long runs. Until then, I recommend lots of water and electrolyte consumption for you sleeper-iners.

Sue was trying to talk me into trying for the half for that one... I think she's crazy. But you have fun with that...

i ran last night in about 85 degree weather. it was the worst run i've done since the last time i ran in that temperature. unfortunately i'm running the silver state half in august, so i need to get some training in with some decent temperature.
