carpooling w/ a Latter Day Saint

i go to work every morning w/ a good friend of mine. he helped me get my job, move to another house, his daughter is the best baby-sitter known to man, & he's very kind.

in many ways, he is "shining the light" much better than i. at work he's encouraging, positive, & always thinking of others & how they're doing. he's always trying to make things easier for me w/ work & carpooling. this guy is really cool.

we've gotten to know each other very well over the past 4 yrs. i've come to realize that if you need somebody to be there for ya- he's your guy. the help he provides is genuine & caring. i know he's got my back- he always does.

we've shared our faith in tid-bits over the years w/ each other. he speaks of the Holy Spirit like we do & talks about God's will. his "people' pray to "God" & ask for direction. he describes the in-filling of the Holy Spirit like a "burning in his belly". often he sounds like some of our hyper-charismatic friends. he's very active in his "Ward" as "Bishop". they look after the poor, needy, elderly & anyone needing something. they have highly effective systems that do things in an optimal manner. his 6 children appear very happy & healthily developed. in getting to know his children, i notice humility & high intelligence.

my buddy & i never argue about our differing beliefs. he gets uncomfortable when i talk about Jesus. also, when i say "disciple" or "heaven". i get uncomfortable when he talks about visiting the "private temple" (you know, the one by mcqueen high school). he gets wiggly when i talk about the Bible being the only Word we need. we kind of skate around the uncomfortable parts that are really @ the root of our differences. it's kinda funny actually. in 4 yrs. we've been trying to shine our light on each other, so the other can be "saved". i think he might be winning in the "light shining" category.

anybody else out there w/ something like this going on? feel free to share!

I just wanted to say something on the subject of carpooling with an LDS... My former manager is LDS and has a mini-van for his 5 kids... When he uses it to carpool people for work events out of town, he refers to it as the Mormon Assault Vehicle... Just thought that might entertain you...

since you're running a little low on the nerd content on this blog:
i am reminded of star trek iv where the crew of the enterprise goes back in time to the 20th century. spock is acting weird and kirk's explanation is "he's had a little to much lds."

jeni- my friend has a "cargo" van w/ four rows of seats. his license plate reads, "BMW 8". it stand for "Big Mormon Wagon" w/ 8 people in the family. the "MAV" was entertaining- thanks.

brent- thanks for regulating my blog w/ nerdness. mindy says i have enough nerdness to go around- i guess she hasn't spent enough time around you. ;-)

I carpooled once (ONE TIME) with a Mormon. She hated her religion - she just did it while she lived in her parents house because she had to. That was a bad date...
