What's Next?

One of the ways I find enjoyment is to set goals. I like to make a plan, then spend each and every day doing what it takes to see it to fruition. All 3 of my marathons have been planned out to the dotting of the "i", because I like to see things come together from a good plan.

If I just workout to workout, then my motivation/enthusiasm will decrease, so I look to pick the next marathon/event. I don't know for sure that I'll run the Reno Marathon again, but I have "loosely" picked it out as the next one that I"ll be running. It gives me over 6 mos. to train and also, it gives me a little time to play with the Hillsiders this season. Take it from me-- basketball is not endurance running. Just because I've run a marathon- it doesn't make me mister-in-shape out on the b-ball court. I felt very, very tired the last couple of games. It's a totally different animal.

Anyway, I've picked out some killer hills where I live and will be getting to know them intimately over the next few months-- just in case the Reno Marathon is something I do. Along with the hills, I'm going to keep up the cross-training/weight-lifting, and will implement some tempo and Fartlek methods into my running. I love this stuff.

Do the Fartlek methods give you extra propulsion up the hill?

Tee hee hee... He said "fartlek"!!!

But seriously, if you want to take a trip for a marathon, you could always go to Nashville for the Country Music Marathon... Oh, wait. That's MY plan! I guess maybe you should stick with the Reno plan for the moment... :)

In a JayBird summation,

Fartlek can be used for many sports. In this case, I'll give a running example: It would be like jogging at a comfortable pace, then running like a bat-out-of-hell, then walking, then sprinting, then jogging. There's no set formula- the method is sporatic and aims to improve aerobic fitness. Have you ever been playing around and ran slow, then fast, then slow, and so on? For an official definition check this site out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fartlek

So what you're saying is, it all depends on when those burritos you ate decide to kick in...
He he he...
