Bobbing for Apples

A few times back in the ‘70s (gasp), I attended Life Center’s (now Hillside) Harvest Party. It was much like what we/Hillside does now for the kids during Halloween. My favorite costume was my cowboy outfit. I had a couple holsters and shiny big pistols. I really did feel pretty tuff in that costume. I also had an Indian costume and loved the Chief’s Head-piece—the feathers were so awesome.

One of my favorite booths was the “Bobbing for Apples” booth. I had so much fun doing that. I was thinking this morning on how unclean that game is. A hundred different mouths/teeth, noses, faces, saliva, snot, and whatever else is floating around in there. Yuck. You couldn’t pay me to do it now.

I’m hearing that this year’s event at Hillside is ‘50s themed. My girls are talking about poodle-skirts and such. We (Bennetts) don’t “celebrate” Halloween, but I do allow for them to get some candy and dress-up in a safe environment. Maybe, I’ll see you there. I’ll be coming as a short, white, balding, husky guy.

I didn't know Hillside was having an event.

'50s themed? WHY???? WHY DO I HAVE TO WORK THAT DAY???? I really want to wear my poodle skirt again!

On the subject of Hillside's former alias Lifecenter's parties, I went to a couple of those, also. I jokingly suggested to my best friend at the time that she should go as a fried egg... She took me seriously and actually did it. I don't remember what my costume was...

The '50s, huh? You know who absolutely loved the '50s? Black people . . . or pretty much anyone that wasn't white.

Does this mean we'll be having a separate but equal kind of get together?

I'm really not sure that it's going down this year. My ladies heard it mentioned a while back, but nothing for sure at this point. Let's ask Stephanie.

I think Pinky Tuscadero was the bomb. Remember her?

I think I'll dress up in my Mormon Missionary costume . . .

Forget what I said about a party this year. It's not going down. If anyone wants to come to my house, so you can wear your costume, then feel free to come out-- I'll have a tub of apples waiting for you.
