community....

....means different things to different people.

What does community mean to you in terms of church and how would you approach increasing it?

I was going to post this a few days ago, but I thought I would wait and let people give you replies that were less cynical.

Since nobody else has posted here's my take:

Community, regardless of location, is a place where things are going well until someone - intentionally or unintentionally - messes things up for everyone else.

I wouldn't try to increase it, but when someone else does, it typically ends up being a good thing for me.

I guess I have to be tricked into participation - kind of like I was with blogging, and more importantly, life.

I have been rolling this around in my head for the last couple of days. I still am not ready to articulate my response, but I will be back....

Community is hanging out with others and investing in/being invested in others lives. It's consistantly getting together and living.

I can probably add more but that is my view at this point.

i'm not sure how to answer, that's why i haven't. community means hanging out, having fun. however, it also means being seriously involved in people's lives. this is where david's part comes in. any time someone moves from acquaintance to actual friend, they become like family. they now have the ability to hurt you in ways they never could if you didn't let them in. and chance are pretty good that each one of them will at some point.

I don't think that community neccesarily means being seriously involved in someone's life. That is friendship, and there are too many people in a community that just sort of exist as opposed to meaning anything, good or bad.
