#11

After the 4th of July party, Mindy and I started dating and getting to know each other. We’d talk a lot and go out for food almost every day. Our favorite places were Taco Bell and Wendy’s (Keystone area). She’d often come over to my house after her UNR classes and hang-out. I was enrolled at UNR, but wasn’t attending class at the time (at least not regularly). It was a bit strange to bump into her on the UNR campus. Sometimes she’d be with her friends and her friends were surprised that she was dating me. They thought I wasn’t her type. I admit that I was not friendly to her friends and made no effort at all to get to know them—I wasn’t even civil to them. Her friends didn't like my “type” and I gave them all the ammo they needed to fulfill their expectation/stereotype.

I wore black 14-hole Doc Martin’s boots and another pair of 3-hole Doc’s that were burgundy. My pants (all different kinds) I would peg right above whatever shoes I was wearing. My shirts were usually some kind of band: Misfits, Depeche Mode, Metallica, Bauhaus, etc... My hair was one length of blond curls or I would spike the top with gel or mousse. I would often wear tank-tops/”wife-beaters” and would have some sort of spiked accessory on my wrist. My leather jacket was studded, spiked, and adorned with chains. I was/is white or red and was/is vulnerable to the sun (too bright for my eyes, and sunburns). Yes, very special, I know. Sunshine is best appreciated from inside the house or running with a hat and sunglasses on. :>)

Mindy wore form fitting stretch pants and white sneakers (Peds?). She wore armless shirt/blouses and had preppy sweaters. She wore light makeup pretty and jewelry (mostly gold) and was/is a girly-girl. She wore shorts and a tank-tops during the Summer. She had a nice tan and smelled good. Mindy was very easy-going and didn’t mind what we were doing together—she just liked us being together.

We talked for endless hours getting to know each other. I would pick her up from her pig farm in Washoe Valley (she’s going to love this) and her house was on a dirt road. I had to have some fun every time out, so I would race the dirt roads with my VW rabbit. So much fun, yo. It smelled like cow dung out there and it grossed me out. I never did get used to the smell.

About 6 weeks into our relationship, I took Mindy to Great America. We had a total blast and it’s one of our fondest memories together. Nobody was at the park, so we got on each ride right away. It was aweshum.

I love the mental picture you are painting of your early 90's fashion. It is priceless. Did Mindy have big bangs too?

I also love the mental picture, but I'm feeling a bit deprived since there are no pictures-- particularly the "one length blonde curls"...

But I'm still truly enjoying this series! :)

Jeni raises a seriously outrageous and awesome point about the pictures . . . Dude, I'm beggin' ya' . . .

My word verification is "pooked" . . . What is it about this blog anyway?

I'm guessing you went into the Marines after UNR.
